Am I Reviewing the iPhone Fold?

If you’ve spent any time in the tech corner of YouTube lately, you know the buzz is reaching a fever pitch. We’re hearing rumors of an iPhone Fold (or iPhone Ultra, or whatever name Apple eventually settles on) hitting the shelves sometime before the end of 2026. As the "folding phone guy," I’ve been flooded with one question: Shane, are you going to review the folding iPhone? It seems like a no-brainer because, in the world of tech content, Apple and Samsung are the undisputed kings of views and revenue. However, for me, the decision isn't that simple. I’m still on the fence about whether a review from me would actually be any good for the audience.

Here is a fun fact: I have never had my SIM card in an iPhone. I’ve picked them up to help my mom fix a setting, but beyond thirty seconds of troubleshooting, I have zero experience with the ecosystem. If I reviewed the iPhone Fold, it wouldn't just be a hardware review; it would be a "first time using an iPhone" experience. While that sounds like a great fish out of water story, I have a major concern that my personal frustration might get in the way of the facts.

I am a creature of habit. Recently, I’ve been using the Honor Magic V3, and even though the hardware is incredible, the software (which leans heavily toward iOS design) annoyed me for months. It took half a year for me to get used to the software quirks enough to actually enjoy the phone. Now, imagine jumping into full-blown iOS. Every time I pick up an iPhone, I’m instantly annoyed because the logic doesn't match the way my brain is wired. I worry that a video after just one week would just be me being confused and complaining, which isn't insightful or intelligent critique.

I’ll admit it: I have a bit of a contrarian streak. When everyone tells me a movie or a TV show is the best thing ever, I instinctively want nothing to do with it. iPhones are the most popular devices on the planet and everyone has one. Growing up as a bit of an outsider, I think I’ve carried that oddball energy into my tech choices. I love the niche, the experimental, and the underdog. Reviewing the most mainstream device in history feels a bit against my DNA, though I could certainly put that aside for the sake of the viewers if the content felt right.

By the time an iPhone Fold actually launches, we’ll likely be looking at new Pixels, the next Z Fold, and updated Moto Razrs. Those are devices I actually understand and enjoy using. The dilemma is whether I should ignore the phones I love to spend three to six months learning iOS just to give a coherent review. If I can't get past my distaste for the operating system, I’ve spent a lot of money and time on a video that offers nothing but negativity, and I really don't like posting negative videos.

I’m not saying no, but I’m definitely not saying a definitive yes. Maybe Apple will announce something so revolutionary that I’ll be forced to dive in. In the meantime, I could buy a cheap iPhone now to start training, but honestly, I really don't want to. I’m happy in my Android bubble. What about you? Have you ever made the jump from Android to iOS or the other direction? Was it a smooth transition, or did it irritate the living daylights out of you like it does me? Let me know in the comments.
