Everything You Need to Know About the Oppo Find N5

Now that the Oppo Find N5 has been fully unveiled, let’s quickly rundown everything you need to know. The first thing that Oppo wants you to know is that the Find N5 the slimmest book-style folding phone on the market. Measuring in at 4.21mm when opened and weighing only 229g, this folding phone should feel the most like a standard phone of any device on the market yet. The Find N5 is so thin that Oppo had to use part of the frame itself as the USB C connector. I don’t know exactly what that means, but it sounds impressive.

Unfortunately, while the Find N3 was rebranded as the OnePlus Open in some regions, that won't be the case with the Find N5 as OnePlus has confirmed there won't be a OnePlus Open 2 this year. Oppo has announced a “global simultaneous launch” although specific regions remain a bit unclear. You should be able to import a global version of the phone and use it most places though.

Oppo also announced that the fragile inner display would feature a new Dual Shielded Flexible Screen. This display consists of 9 layers with an anti-shock film on top which aims to protect against impact damage. They say it’s 70% more durable against impacts.

Another interesting detail is that the Find N5 was tested with 100K open/close cycles at 50°C and -20°C. For Americans, that’s down below zero. I always find myself feeling nervous to use my folding phone out in the cold, but it sounds like that shouldn’t be an issue here.

That screen also features an improved inner crease which Oppo says is the least visible crease on any foldable. It’s 10% more narrow and 30% more shallow. They already had a lead there and it sounds like they’ve extended it.

Software

Oppo/OnePlus’s Open Canvas (Boundless View) is returning with the Find N5 as well. This interface allows users to use three apps at a time, each of which can be expanded into a more or less full screen experience.

At the reveal event, they also showed off some AI features we saw mentioned during the Oxygen OS 15 unveil event like AI Search. Doing a system search is not only universal, it also uses AI to analyze and understand what you’re asking it. One example was asking “When is my flight” and it was able to search their files and find this information. Here are some other new-ish software tools they’ve added.

  • AI Call Summary

  • Flex Mode Interpreter

  • Gemini

Oppo also showed off a couple of tools to help users interface with iPhone users as well as with their own Mac devices.

Where to Buy

Oppo has confirmed to ComputerBase.de that the Find N5 will not be directly launching in Europe, meaning most of us will need to import the phone. To do that, you’ll have several options. One easy way to go (and what I’ll likely be doing) is using AverageDadTech’s store. He currently has a global variant listed for $1929 shipping on the 28th. Wanda Mobile and Giztop are also well know options.

Carriers

As this is a “global” device, you should be able to use it in most of Europe without any issues. Judging by the supported bands listed on the Oppo website, it looks like most carriers American carriers should be supported decently, but the lack of band 71 will make like a bit harder for some of us. You’d be wise to dig into this before importing.
