First Photo of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 Leaks
Alright, buckle up, fellow tech enthusiasts! It looks like we might have just gotten our very first glimpse of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7, and of course, I had to break it all down for you. A recent post on Weibo (which I managed to track down the original source of, despite seeing it reposted elsewhere with no source) has given us a single image of what appears to be the back of the device. Now, while it's just one shot, I think we can still piece together some pretty interesting details.
The user who posted it, Satsuna Digital included an image that strongly resembles the renders we saw circulating months ago. If you compare this photo to those earlier conceptualizations, the camera bump, the spacing up top, and even the little LED flash all seem to align in the correct positions. Comparing this image to my own Galaxy Z Fold 6, a few differences immediately Jump out. The LED flash is definitely in a new spot. But perhaps more significantly, even from this single shot, the Z Fold 7 appears to be a bit wider than the Z Fold 6.
Now, you might remember a video I put out just the other day where I took on the challenge of creating a 3D-printed dummy of the Galaxy Z Fold 7's expected dimensions in order to compare it to various other devices. We had a pretty good idea about the height and the closed thickness (around 9mm when you factor in those bezel protrusions). However, the width has been a bit more elusive as we don’t yet have the folded dimension. Unlike a simple 50% reduction from the unfolded width, the Z Fold Special Editions had a different ratio (around 48%). So, figuring out the exact width has been a bit of a guessing game.
But hey, I wasn't going to let a single image stop me from doing some digital detective work! I grabbed a photo of my trusty S25 Ultra and this leaked Z Fold 7 image and threw them into an image editor. After scaling the S25 Ultra to a reasonable size, I used a pixel measuring tool measure the S25. Then, using the known height of the S25 Ultra and the rumored height of the Z Fold 7, I calculated the ratio and scaled the leaked image to match. My fuzzy math (and I emphasize the "fuzzy"!) suggests the Z Fold 7 might be just a little over 2% shorter than the S25 Ultra.
To visualize this, I even overlaid the scaled Z Fold 7 image onto my S25 Ultra photo, lowering the opacity to get a better sense of the size difference. Keep in mind that the angle of the leaked photo isn't perfectly straight-on, which introduces some distortion. However, when I then brought my 3D-printed dummy into the mix and tried to line things up, I was pretty impressed with how close my earlier estimations seem to be. The dummy appears to be just a hair shorter and a touch wider than the S25 Ultra in the overlay.
Look, I'm not claiming this is a perfect, one-to-one representation. As I said, it's some educated guesswork based on a single image and previous rumors. But I do think this mostly validates what I was able to show in my prior videos.
But regardless, based on this latest leak, I genuinely believe we're getting our first real-world look at the Galaxy Z Fold 7. And what I'm seeing looks promising. It finally seems to be heading in a direction that makes it feel much more like a "normal" phone when closed – almost like a compact, foldable S25 Ultra. This is the kind of form factor many of us have been hoping for. Sure, there might be some camera compromises to achieve this, but in terms of dimensions, I think we're getting very close to what the final product will be.
