Galaxy Z Fold 7 Dummy Unit Leaks
Tech channel The Sinza has just posted perhaps our best look at the unannounced Galaxy Z Fold 7 in the form of a dummy unit. While it’s important to note than a dummy unit like this is likely to have some small differences from the real thing, the dimensions are apparently pretty spot on.
Compared to the current gen Z Fold 6, the Fold 7 is obviously much, much thinner. We should see a drop from around 12mm when closed down to around 9mm. The cover display is also larger going from 6.3-inches to 6.5-inches, but the biggest change there is the change in aspect ratio. Despite the Fold 6 being wider than the Fold 5, the Fold 7 will be even wider still. Samsung is finally delivering a standard phone experience on the cover display, very much the way they did with the Galaxy Z Fold SE which saw a very limited release last year.
You guys might recall a few weeks back I actually 3D printed my own dummy unit of the Fold 7 to compare it to some other devices. Based on this new video, it looks like my side-by-side to the S25 Ultra was pretty much spot on. As you can see, the Fold 7 is only slightly thicker.. if you ignore than camera bump which extends dramatically far beyond the body of the phone.
Later on in the video they pull out a caliper and measure the device. As you can see, the closed measurement is indeed 9mm, but the opened thickness is 4.5mm - thicker than tipster Ice Universe had predicted. For those who missed it, this mystery has already been solved. As it turns out, folding phone OEMs do not include the bezel on the inner screen in their thickness measurements. For instance, the 4.2mm Oppo Find N5 is actually around 4.5mm when measured the way they do in this video. For this reason, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 can be measured at 4.5mm, but will indeed likely be marketed at around 3.9mm due to their rather tall bezel.
If you’ve ever wondered how the 4.2mm Find N5 is nearly 9mm when closed, that’s how. It’s not 4.2mm when opened, it’s closer to 4.5mm. When comparing phone dimensions like this channel does, it’s important not to mix and match given dimensions which exclude the bezel with measurements taken by hand which do not. By doing this, they end up calling the Special Edition 4.9mm and the Fold 7 4.5mm which is unfair to the Fold 7.
