Galaxy Z Fold Event Reportedly Coming in July

Samsung is reportedly planning an NYC event in "early July" to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, and presumably some other devices. According to Joongang, the company is apparently targeting New York for the first time since 2022 in an attempt to focus on the US market, citing tariffs as “increased risk.”

Last year, the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6 event was held on July the 10th, which I would also consider to be early July. This report does make a distinction between “early July” and the “second week” of July, so it’s possible it could be even earlier. Although, moving up much earlier would be an odd decision as they’d be running a bit close to the 4th of July holiday here in the States. This year the 4th hits on a Friday and that timing should wipe out the following weekend as well.

What Could Be Announced

At this event we should of course be seeing the new Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7. The Fold 7 in particular looks to be an exciting iteration this year with some much improved hardware. While it will likely fall short of the insane hardware of some Chinese foldables like my Oppo Find N5, the improved primary camera, radically reduced thickness, new SOC, larger vapor chamber and standard phone aspect ratio should allow this new Fold to take a pretty major step forward this year.

My expectation is that this will be the biggest year-over-year leap since we went from Z Fold to Z Fold 2.

What Isn’t Expected

Samsung is said to also be working on a two-hinged Multi-Folding device to match Huawei’s Mate XT as well as a cheaper variant of the Z Flip 7. Neither of these devices are expected to be launched at this event. Recent word is that they’ll be debuted at an event occurring towards the end of this year instead.

There had been a thought that the cheaper Z Flip 7 would be called the Z Flip FE (Fan Edition), but a recent report claims that Samsung might swap FE for Xe. This Xe name has now appeared on a carrier’s eSIM compatibility page as well as on the GSMA database.

The Multi-Fold is expected to come with a very similar camera setup to the Z Fold 7, topping things off with that 200MP primary camera. Otherwise, the device is expected to have a 6.49-inch cover display which folds out twice to reveal a 10-inch inner display. Diverging from Huawei’s in-and-out folding style, Samsung’s device is expected to fold inward on both sides.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge could be shown again here, but word is it’ll be released by the end of May.
