Galaxy Z Fold7 Again Rumored As Big Upgrade

Now that the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S25 series has finally been released, all eyes are now turning towards the company's next major launch: the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 (no one cares about Edge).

In the meantime, various rumors have begun to surface from sources that are a bit more unverified than usual. While these claims are not typically considered reliable, I have decided to take a closer look at these whispers to see if there's any substance to them. With stiff competition from the OnePlus Open 2 set to be announced soon, Samsung better be ready to bring their A-Game..

First, we have a tweet from Anthony where he echoes similar reports from Ross Young claiming that the Z Fold7 will more or less be the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition that released last year in China and South Korea. If true, this would be a major upgrade in several ways vs the Z Fold6.

Z Fold6 vs Special Edition

We would get larger screens with the inner screen being closer to 8”, a wider aspect ratio cover display that is finally more or less the same as a normal phone, a thinner build, a 200mp primary camera similar to the Ultra phones, better speakers and a larger vapor chamber. The only possible downside are the reports of the omission of the S Pen digitizer. This would require Samsung to use a different technology vs what they currently use to keep the S Pen working.

My only caveat here is that while Anthony’s claims to line up with reports from other reputable sources, he generally is seen as more of a news aggregator and not a direct source. It’s unclear if he’s citing a source here or just repeating what has been said by others.

Our second source today comes from Twitter user PandaFlashPro who is “confirming” that the Fold7 and Flip7 will have larger vapor chambers. They also mention that the new foldables will have reworked hinges that allow for smoother operation and improved durability as well as a reduction in the appearance of the dreaded crease. Samsung has long been apprehensive to switch to the “tear drop” style hinge method that other foldables have been using. This technique seems to reduce the appearance of the crease, but might also make things like dust and water resistance more difficult. It’s unclear if Samsung is staying the course with their tighter radius fold or not, but I would suspect they are.

In a second Tweet the panda person says that the Fold7 button placements are the same and the speakers look the same, but will be improved.

What do you guys think? If all this comes to fruition, will this be enough to hold of the incredible looking OnePlus Open 2 or will Samsung still find themselves falling firther and further behind?
