How to Run Samsung DeX Inside Windows On One UI 8

With the latest One UI 8 update, Samsung removed the ability to run DeX inside a Windows computer. But there is a workaround. By using a program called scrcpy, you can still get the DeX experience on your Windows PC. Here is a step-by-step guide on how to set it up:

1. Developer Options

To get started you will need to enable developer options on your Samsung device. Here is how:

  • Go to Settings > About phone > Software information.

  • Tap on Build number seven times until you see a message saying "Developer mode has been turned on."

  • Head to Developer Option in Settings and enable USB Debugging.

  • Scroll down and look for Freeform windows on secondary display and make sure that is on.

2. Download and Install Screen Copy

Next you will need to download scrcpy on your Windows computer.

  • Go to the official scrcpy website and download the latest release for Windows.

  • Extract the downloaded zip file to a folder on your computer.

3. Run Screen Copy

Now you are ready to run scrcpy up and running on your computer.

  • Plug your Samsung phone into your computer using a USB cable.

  • Run the scrcpy.exe file from the folder you extracted earlier.

  • A window will pop up on your phone asking you to allow the connection. Tap Allow.

  • This should mirror your phone screen quite nicely, but we’re here for DeX.

4. Launch DeX in Screen Copy

You are almost there! The final step is to launch DeX in scrcpy using a special command.

  • Open the "Open a terminal here" file in the scrcpy folder.

  • Copy and paste “scrcpy --new-display=1920x1080/150” and press Enter.

  • A new window will open on your computer with the DeX interface. You can now use your mouse and keyboard to control your phone in DeX mode.

  • Modify the resolution and density in the command until things look right for your screen.

  • To use DeX wirelessly, add the “--tcpip” command to the end of the command in the terminal.

  • To make DeX full screen, press Alt + F.

You now have a mostly fully functional DeX experience on your Windows computer. While it is not a perfect solution, it is a great workaround for those who miss the old DeX for PC app.
