Leaker Claims OnePlus Open 2 to be World’s Thinnest?

The OnePlus Open 2 is shaping up to be an impressive foldable phone, with rumors suggesting it will be thinner, lighter, and more powerful than its predecessor. In the past I tried my best to put together all the known rumors into one easy to read place and today we’re going to take another look at exactly that while adding a couple of important new details vs leaker Digital Chat Station.

Prior Rumors

Performance and Storage:

  • It's expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite, the most powerful processor available when it's released.

  • While not confirmed, it's likely to have 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, similar to the original OnePlus Open.

Display:

  • The display is rumored to be around 8 inches. Brightness has not been talked about, expect 2,800 nits or higher.

Battery and Charging:

  • The battery is rumored to be around 5,900mAh, which would be a significant increase from the original OnePlus Open and would frankly be nuts to see.

  • It's expected to support 80w charging with 50w wireless charging. Again, just insane.

Cameras:

  • The camera system is rumored to be a triple 50-megapixel setup, potentially borrowed from the OnePlus 13.

Software:

  • The OnePlus Open 2 will launch with OxygenOS 15, the latest version of OnePlus's Android skin. Expect more AI features to come as well as things like Circle to Search which was teased for OxygenOS 15, but not delivered to the original Open just yet.

Design:

  • The phone is expected to be incredibly thin, around 9mm, which would be thinner than the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and the Z Fold 6. This is where the new details come in.

Digital Chat Station

Posted to Weibo, DCS has recently stated that they managed to get hands on with the “Green Factories” new foldable. This is phrasing is in reference to Oppo, OnePlus’s sister company. Along with the OnePlus Open, Oppo launched the Find N3 with the Open being essentially a rebadge. As Oppo preps the Find N5, the Open 2 will be exactly that again. So, what did they notice holding the N5? “The fuselage was the thinnest in the world.”

Ladies and gentlemen, is he saying this is literally the thinnest foldable yet? Somewhere in the 9mm range, the Open 2 could truly be next-level thin and could be thinner than the Honor Magic V3 which clocks in at 9.2mm when folded and a mind bending 4.35mm when unfolded.. Beyond that, they also mentioned the use of Titanium.

When is it coming?

The phone is rumored to be released in Q1 of 2025, but the exact date and price are still unknown. Unfortunately, it could be negatively impacted by the proposed tariffs against China as well.
