Leaks Shows Pixel 10 Qi2 Magnet is BUILT IN?
Despite earlier reports that the Pixel 10’s rumored Pixel Snap feature would utilize Qi2 magnets placed inside their cases, a new leak from Evan Blass shows that might not be true..
The Specs
In a series of Tweets, Blass showed several bits of what appears to be marketing material which not only shows the design, but also the specs of the upcoming Pixel 10 devices. While the images of the devices don’t reveal anything we haven’t already seen, the specs to have a couple nuggets.
Firstly, the new telephoto camera on the base model Pixel 10 looks to be limited to only 20x. As it uses the same sensor as the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, this makes sense. That phone also topped out at 20x zoom.
Speaking of the Pixel Fold, the new model is said to match the 9 Pro Fold’s maximum battery rating using Extreme Battery Saver with 72 hours of total use. This is a bit surprising given the 10 Pro Fold is said to have a much larger battery than last year’s model - going from 4650mAh to 5,015mAh.
Interestingly, the larger batteries in the other models have allowed Google to now claim “up to 100 hours with Extreme Battery Saver” for them.
The new Fold’s hinge is also once again using a “multi-alloy steel hinge with aerospace-grade high-strength aluminum cover alloy.”
Pixel Snap
Among the new renders and spec sheets Blass posted was one image depicting a Pixel 10 Model with a Qi2 wireless charger attached to the back. The kicker? There is no case being used implying that this can be done without an external magnet. This strongly suggests that the Pixel 10 series will feature built-in magnets for Qi2 charging, allowing for a truly caseless magnetic accessory experience. This aligns with Google's ongoing development of a Qi2 accessory ecosystem, reportedly called "Pixelsnap," which previously fueled speculation about integrated magnetic capabilities.
The implication of built-in magnets for Qi2 support means Pixel users could finally enjoy a seamless magnetic charging and accessory experience similar to MagSafe on iPhones, without relying on special cases. This opens the door for a variety of "Pixelsnap" branded accessories, from chargers to stands, to directly attach to the phone. Previously, we had speculated about an increase in the Pixel 10 series' weight and largely attributed it to larger batteries. The inclusion of built-in magnets for Qi2 could also contribute to this heavier build.
All these details are expected to be officially confirmed at the Made by Google event scheduled for August 20, with shipments anticipated to begin on August 28.
