OnePlus Open Delayed Until 2nd Half of 2025? Not So Fast..

As you guys know, the OnePlus Open is one of my favorite phones in recent years. I've been keeping a close eye on all the rumors surrounding its sequel, the OnePlus Open 2.

But there's one rumor I haven't addressed yet: a recent report suggesting the OnePlus Open 2 might be delayed until later than expected. Let's dive into that and why I think it's probably not true.

The Rumor Mill Churns

It all started with this tweet claiming the OnePlus Open 2 is slated for "H2 2025," meaning the second half of 2025. This contradicts earlier reports from reliable leakers like Digital Chat Station on Weibo, who has a good track record with Oppo and OnePlus leaks. Now, I'm not throwing shade at this Twitter user, but I do believe they're mistaken. Let me explain why.

Evidence Points to an Earlier Release

First, Digital Chat Station has consistently stated the Open 2 will launch in the first half of 2025, even specifying Q1 2025 in one post. This leaker has been pretty accurate in the past, so I'm inclined to trust their information.

But why rely on leaks alone when we have insights from Oppo itself? An Oppo product manager posted on Weibo outlining their release timeline: first the new generation of large folding phone (the Find N5), then the X8 Ultra.

Knowing that the Find X7 Ultra was released in January 2024, we can assume its successor will follow a similar timeline. This means the Find N5 should arrive sometime before that, likely in Q1 2025. It wouldn't make sense for OnePlus to launch the Open 2 (essentially the same device as the Find N5) months later in the second half of the year.

More Support for an Earlier Launch

Even Yogesh Brar, another reliable leaker, tweeted on December 24th that the Open 2 launch is happening sooner than reported. So, it seems like multiple sources are contradicting the initial delay rumor.

OnePlus and Oppo: The Kings of Conflicting Rumors

This whole situation reminds me of the reports that OnePlus was exiting the foldable phone market, even though there was strong evidence of an upcoming foldable device. Those reports were clearly wrong, and we now have confirmation of the Find N5's existence.

I don't know why OnePlus and Oppo are surrounded by so many strange and conflicting rumors. My advice? Take everything with a grain of salt and pay attention to the most reliable leakers and official sources. When a rumor seems crazy, it probably is.
