OnePlus Open’s Biggest Omission Is Solved

Despite the fact that the original OnePlus Open/OPPO Find N2 had a real strength in the form of 67W charging, there was one rather blatant omission on these devices which stood out as one of the loan setbacks of what is otherwise a superb device - wireless charging.

Now, it appears that we have confirmation of a report from Smartprix.com a few weeks back that the sequel to the OnePlus and OPPO device would not just be adding wireless charging, it would be adding 50W wireless charging. To keep things in perspective, that would have this device charging wirelessly significantly faster than Samsung or Google's foldables can charge over a wire. That is absolutely insane.

Interestingly, that report from SmartPrix has been shown to have been wrong with regard to their render of the device. They got the camera module wrong, yet they got the Wireless charging correct. They also predicted 80W wired charging, so here’s hoping that part was correct as well.

This news does come straight from the horse's mouth, once again on the Chinese social media website Weibo, we have a post from project manager Zhou Yibao where he explains that the original reason for excluding Qi was to keep the device thin. Now, they’ve somehow managed to include Qi, while making the device much thinner. Clearly some sort of black magic is at work. Add this in with yesterday’s demonstration of IPX9 waterproofing and I’m even more sure of that.
