Running Windows Games on Android Keeps Improving

Development on DroidDeck is moving at a steady pace, with continuous updates refining the experience for handheld and mobile Android gaming setups. The latest updates, covering versions 0.5.0 and 0.6.0, bring expanded storefront integrations, broader hardware control options, native XR headset support, and additional underlying system features.

Here is a look at what has been added in the recent releases.

Storefront and Library Expansions

  • Xbox and PC Game Pass integration has been added to the store options, allowing users to log into a Microsoft account to view, download, pause, resume, and manage games directly through Proton or FEX.

  • itch.io store support is now available, enabling users to search shelves and browse DRM-free Windows builds using an itch.io API key.

  • The native Epic Games Launcher can now run under FEX with automatic sign-in to handle purchases, online services, and achievements.

  • The store user interface received a full redesign, separating libraries into distinct Library and Store tabs with a capsule view for portrait DVD-case art, along with options to reorder or hide storefronts.

Enhanced Controls and Gesture Mapping

  • Configurable touchscreen gestures allow users to map taps, double-taps, holds, multi-finger drags, and pinch zooms to custom actions with per-game override settings.

  • Control options for foldable devices have been expanded so unfolded trackpad and back button controls remain active when a physical controller is attached, alongside an option to disable the built-in controller entirely to assign an external controller as Player 1.

Extended Reality and VR Support

  • Native glasses support has been added for Rokid Max and Rokid Air glasses, featuring 3DoF head tracking, SBS modes, and 120 Hz support. Experimental tracking has also been introduced for VITURE Pro 2, VITURE Pro XR, RayNeo, and XREAL glasses without requiring extra SDKs.

  • SteamVR integration now offers native OpenXR support for Meta Quest 3, 3S, and Quest 2 headsets, as well as a Cardboard VR mode for split-lens stereo rendering.

Performance and System Improvements

  • Steam Remote Play video capture now routes through PipeWire with hardware encoding to lower frame capture times on supported hardware.

  • The component manager now includes toggles for nightly builds of DXVK, VKD3D-Proton, and FEX, as well as an optional x86-64 Steam client running under FEX.

  • New visual and media customization features include boot movie support sourced from SteamDeckRepo, expanded performance HUD telemetry for frame-time graphs and battery temperatures, and a custom Gradient theme color selector.

Work continues across the project as new features and optimizations are rolled out. You can check out the full release log and download the latest build directly on the DroidDeck Releases Page.
