Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 Event is TOMORROW
The countdown is officially on, we are less than 24 hours away from the official unveiling of the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Before the big livestream kicks off, a few massive eve-of-launch leaks have dropped, giving us one last look at the hardware and some incredibly telling production numbers.
From bizarre render errors to a massive shift in how Samsung expects these phones to sell, here is everything breaking right before the event.
New Renders
Roland Quant shared a handful of new device renders on Blue Sky, giving us another look at the highly anticipated violet model. The device sports a 4x3 inner screen and a 16x10 cover display, which completely refines the form factor.
Looking closely at the renders of the top and bottom edges, something strange popped up. Right next to the USBC port and the speaker grille, there is an extra, unexplained cutout.
Comparing the render to actual third-party cases shows a clear mismatch. The case has standard cutouts for the USBC port, the main speaker, and the tiny microphone hole, but absolutely nothing that matches this weird extra element from the leak.
A separate leaked image showcasing the internal display layers confirms the suspicion. The strange port is completely gone in that diagram, meaning it was likely just a rendering error that slipped through the cracks.
Another image highlights the titanium backplate and the new flex titanium layer embedded directly into the screen structure, complete with laser-drilled holes for flexibility.
The inclusion of this layer in these specific renders suggests that the upgraded durability and improved screen crease are not going to be exclusive to the Ultra model. Samsung appears to be bringing this premium structural engineering to the base model Z Fold 8 as well.
Samsung Inverts Its Sales Strategy
A new report from South Korean publication ET News sheds light on Samsung's massive shift in production strategy for this generation. According to industry supply chain sources, Samsung has placed panel orders that reveal exactly which models they expect to carry the heavy weight this year.
The initial production targets paint a fascinating picture of the foldable market:
Galaxy Z Fold 8 (Base/Wide Model): 2.8 million units
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra: 2.0 million units
Galaxy Z Flip 8: 1.5 million units
The most striking takeaway is the total inversion of the Z Flip and Z Fold lines. For years, the cheaper, clamshell Z Flip was the undisputed volume driver for Samsung's foldable division. The momentum shifted with the previous generation, and Samsung is now leaning heavily into the book-style form factor. The Z Flip 8 is being left behind in production volume as consumers increasingly gravitate toward proper productivity foldables.
Samsung is also betting big on the wider, standard Z Fold 8 over the Ultra. While the lower price point of the base model plays a massive role in that 800,000-unit gap, it also signals immense corporate confidence in the redesigned dimensions of the standard device.
With a total initial launch window production target of 6.3 million foldables, Samsung is chasing aggressive growth. To put that into perspective, the previous generation secured 1 million pre-orders in South Korea alone, while US sales outpaced older models by 50%. Samsung fully expects the Z Fold 8 lineup to maintain that upward trajectory.
