Tecno Unveils Phantom Ultimate G Tri-Fold Concept

The world of foldable smartphones continues to evolve rapidly, with manufacturers constantly pushing the boundaries of design and functionality. Today, Tecno has unveiled their new Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept, a tri-fold device that looks quite similar to what Samsung’s much rumored tri-fold could look like.

This innovative concept phone stands out for its incredibly thin profile when unfolded, measuring a mere 3.49mm. This makes it notably thinner than current flagships like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, which comes in at 4.2mm. The Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept uses a dual-hinge system that allows it to fold inward twice rather than the accordion style in-and-out design that we’ve seen Huawei use. This design provides enhanced protection for the large inner screen, but necessitates a second display for use when closed.

When closed, the G Fold Concept measures a chunky 11.49mm. While this is thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold 7's 8.9mm, it still presents a compact form factor that is more manageable than the Huawei Mate XT which is 12.8mm when closed. When fully unfolded, the device transforms into a mini-tablet, boasting a spacious 9.94-inch display. This in closely in line with Samsung’s rumored tri-fold size.

Tecno is also apparently two slightly different hinges in this device - one smaller water-drop hinge that folds in first and then a larger primary hinge that goes over the top of that. This makes sense because when fully closed, one third of the device must sit in between the other two thirds.

While specific details on internal specifications are still emerging, Tecno has indicated that the Phantom Ultimate G Fold Concept will feature a high-performance chipset, a versatile triple-camera system, and a robust battery with over 5,000mAh capacity. This suggests that the device is designed to offer a premium user experience beyond its innovative folding mechanism.

Tecno plans to showcase this groundbreaking concept phone at MWC 2026, building on their previous demonstrations of ultra-thin triple-fold concept phones. Bear in mind that this is a concept phone and like their last tri-fold concept, it may never see an actual release.
