The Galaxy S25 Edge isThinner Than We Thought..

Do you remember a few weeks ago when some renders were posted on Smartprix, allegedly depicting the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge? Do you remember how those renders ended up looking nothing like the final design unveiled at Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event for the Galaxy S25 series?

Via Smartprix, and once again in collaboration with OnLeaks, we have an explanation for what went awry, causing the otherwise reliable leaker to get this so wrong. We also have some allegedly accurate specifications that honestly make a lot more sense than the earlier reporting.

When you compare the old renders to what was actually unveiled, the biggest difference that stands out is the fact that we're looking at a phone with two cameras instead of three. The original render looked very similar to the other Galaxy S25 devices, just a little thinner. So what exactly went wrong? Apparently, the iPhone 17 Air.

As I described in an earlier article, that render just wasn't very thin. Measuring in at 6.4mm, how was this thing thin enough to justify its existence? Especially given that iPhone 17 Air rumors had it at under 6mm. A Galaxy S25 Plus that was a couple MM thinner with a slightly better camera array was just not going to be a winner when viewed against what Apple is probably doing. If you’re going to make a phone based around the concept of being thin.. You’d better be damn thin. Because of that, Samsung allegedly scrapped that design at some point and switched to the dual-camera design to reduce the thickness to much more impressive 5.84mm.

It turns out that pesky telephoto camera was the problem as it needs a bit more depth than the other cameras. With it out of the way, Samsung was free to push the thickness much further - so far in fact that the cameras now exists as individual bumps on top of a camera island. Onleaks says at that top of mount camera the device is around 10mm, almost doubling the device’s overall thickness. Beyond that, we’re also getting the full Snapdragon 8 Elite, a 3,900mAh battery, a 200MP primary and a 50MP ultrawide camera. Honestly, not bad.

SmartPrix writes that the expected release date is April or May of 2025, so we don’t have long to wait and see just how accurate the reports are this time - although I suspect OnLeaks is onto something this time around.
