Can These Apps Turn a Z Fold Into a Steam Deck?

Turning a foldable phone like the Galaxy Z Fold 8 into a portable PC gaming machine is becoming a reality thanks to apps like Droid Deck and Game Native, both of which aim to bring a Steam Deck style experience to Android. DroidDeck isn’t in the Play Store, so it requires sideloading an APK from GitHub, but setup is quite straight forward. While it looks visually impressive and gives you that authentic Steam Deck feel, the overall performance hold it back slightly for now. Lighter indie titles run fine, but more demanding games suffer from framerate stutters, visual scaling bugs, or failing to load into gameplay entirely.

Game Native proves to be the superior option for actually playing games, available directly from the Google Play Store with a setup that requires heading into Developer Options. In head to head testing, games consistently ran smoother and achieved higher frame rates. Modern PC emulation on Android requires some patience for troubleshooting aspect ratios and managing significant storage overhead, but Game Native shows that playing desktop PC games on a foldable display is already surprisingly viable.
