Galaxy Z Fold 8 Renders Leak
If you are wondering what the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is going to look like, we probably have the answer to that question right now. Exclusive to Android Headlines in collaboration with OnLeaks, one of the most reputable tech tipsters on the internet, new renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 have surfaced along with some key specifications.
At first glance, this looks remarkably similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. Looking at the images, the design appears nearly identical. The bezels on both the inner and outer displays seem to be the same size, and the camera positioning hasn't moved. Even the hinge design looks unchanged. This appears to be a pretty minor refresh all things considered, as there isn't much from any angle to suggest a significant departure from last year's model.
The top of the device shows the camera grill and microphones in the same spots, and Samsung is maintaining both speakers on the left side. It would have been great to see one of those speakers migrate to the other side for better stereo sound, but that doesn't seem to be happening. One detail missing from the renders is the SIM tray. Hopefully, that is just an omission in the drawings and not a sign that the physical tray is being removed, as that would make things much more difficult for many users.
The selfie cameras also look the same, which indicates we are not going back to an under-display camera. While some might prefer the camera moved to a corner to stay out of the way, it seems the punch-hole style is here to stay for the Fold 8.
Dimensions Unfolded: 158.4 x 143.2 x 4.5mm
Dimensions Folded: 158.4 x 72.8 x 9mm
Outer Display: 6.5-inch
Inner Display: 8-inch
Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy
RAM: 12GB or 16GB
Storage: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB
Battery: 5,000mAh
Charging: 45W wired
Main Camera: 200MP primary sensor
Ultrawide Camera: 50MP sensor
Telephoto Camera: 10MP 3x sensor
The measurements provided might confuse some people at first. The device is listed at 158.4 by 143.2 mm when unfolded, which is exactly the same as the Galaxy Z Fold 7. However, the thickness is listed at 4.5 mm compared to the 4.2 mm of the previous model. This difference likely comes down to how the measurements are taken. Most manufacturers exclude the bezel that sticks up slightly around the edge, but these renders might be including it. Otherwise, the dimensions are essentially identical year over year.
On the inside, we are looking at the same 6.5 inch cover display and 8 inch main display. The real upgrades are happening under the hood. The Fold 8 is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, a larger 5,000 mAh battery, and 45W wired charging.
The camera system is getting a few tweaks as well. We are likely seeing the same 200 megapixel primary sensor as last year, but the ultrawide is being bumped up to a 50 megapixel sensor. The 10 megapixel 3x telephoto is also reportedly getting a slightly larger sensor. It is an update to two out of the three cameras, which is a step in the right direction even if it isn't a total overhaul.
This device looks like a refinement of last year's phone. Since the leap from the 6 to the 7 was quite large, it makes sense that Samsung is focusing on iterative improvements like a faster processor and better battery life for the 8.
The big question remains: where is the wide version of the Z Fold 8? That is the one many of us are really waiting to see. It is common for these leaks to trickle out one by one, so we might see those renders sooner rather than later. For now, this is our first look at the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 coming from a very reputable source.
