Galaxy Z TriFold’s Eye-Watering Price Revealed
The wait for Samsung’s first tri-folding smartphone in the United States is officially coming to an end. Samsung has confirmed the launch date and pricing for the Galaxy Z TriFold, and while the hardware is undeniably impressive, the price tag is the kind of thing that makes you want to sit down and do some deep breathing.
The Price
Let's just get the "elephant in the room" out of the way immediately: the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold will retail in the US for $2,899.
To put that into perspective, you could buy a Galaxy Z Fold 7 and a Galaxy Tab, and you’d still have enough left over for a very nice dinner and a few months of service. We all knew the price would be steep, but at nearly three grand, the Galaxy Z TriFold is destined to be an incredibly niche device. It will arrive in a single colorway, Crafted Black. Even the most ardent foldable lovers will have a very hard time justifying dropping that kind of cash on a phone, even one that turns into a 10-inch tablet.
High-End Specifications
If you can look past the price tag without your eyes watering, the hardware seems quite nice. You get a 6.5-inch outer AMOLED display for normal use and a massive 10-inch inner display that turns your phone into a literal tablet when fully unfolded. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC. The rear setup features a 200MP primary camera, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. If that seems familiar, it’s because the Z Fold 7 has the exact same camera array.
A large 5,600mAh battery handles the power duties, supported by 45W wired charging. Despite having two hinges, it still manages an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance. The Galaxy Z TriFold launches in the US on January 30th. It will come with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. On the bright side, Samsung is promising seven years of major OS and security updates, which is good, because at $2,900, you are going to want to keep this thing until 2033 just to get your money's worth.
