Google Pixel sales grow in India, OnePlus Nosedives
While Apple and Samsung wrestle for the top spot in India's premium smartphone segment, Google’s Pixel line of smartphones is steadily carving its own path to success. A recent Canalys report highlights Google’s highest ever quarterly growth in this exploding market.
Not long after Google reportedly briefly tripled their US market share, it now looks like they may have done something similar in India. The graphic shown shows Google moving from 1% share up to 5% year-over-year. This jump is particularly interesting because the newest Pixel 9 series of phones did not launch until Q3, so this growth would primarily on the back of the last gen phones.
It’s worth pointing out that the Pixel 8 devices were partially manufactured in India, so this could have had a positive effect on sales in the region.
One interesting thing to note here is that the region saw a rather massive jump in total premium phones shipped - from 4.2 million to 6.5 million year-over-year. As this trend continues, India will only become a hotter battleground for these OEMs to contend in.
Perhaps even more striking than Google’s growth is OnePlus’s plummet from 21% market share down to 6%. The good news for BBK is that their other brands, Vivo and Oppo, both saw modest growth. This can’t be seen as a great sign for OnePlus though, as Google is now right there with them, neck and neck.
