Honor Magic V5 is Official and Impressive

The foldable smartphone market continues to develop, and Honor has now officially introduced its new Magic V5. At first glance, the Magic V5 maintains a familiar aesthetic, closely resembling its predecessor. Digging a bit closer reveals a host of improvements like as insane reduction in thickness, down to 4.1mm when opened. This allows Honor to once again claim the throne of thinnest foldable away from Oppo’s Find N5.

When closed, the device is 8.8mm, meaning the inner bezel should protrude around .3mm. This is puts it in range of the Pixel Fold whose folding screen seems to touch itself when closed. It’ll be interesting to see if that’s a thing here. Honor has also manage to shave the weight down to 217g which is in line with most full-sized flagship phones.

Keep in mind that some color options actually add just a bit of weight and thickness as the material itself changes a bit.

Internals

Anytime we talk about these foldables with their giant inner screens, battery life inevitably comes up. Last year’s Magic V3 was no slouch with a 5,150mAh battery, but with the new model Honor has outdone themselves. The Magic V5 features a 6,100mAh silicon-carbon battery in China, and a 5,820mAh battery for international markets. It supports 66W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

Powering the Magic V5 is the Snapdragon 8 Elite and either 12GB or 16GB of RAM along with 256GB-1TB of ROM. Another upgrade from the V5 is the jump from an IPX8 rating to both IP58 and IP59 rated, thus improving on the water protection and adding some actual dust resistance.
