Moto Razr Fold: What You Need to Know

After weeks of rumors and speculation, the Moto Razr Fold has been unveiled at this year's CES. While the Razr name has long been synonymous with the clamshell "flip" design, Motorola is finally stepping into the book-style foldable arena. This new flagship aims to compete directly with heavy hitters like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

Expansive Displays

The standout feature is the massive 8.09-inch LTPO internal display. This 2K resolution panel offers a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz and supports Dolby Vision. Motorola claims this screen is a "spacious canvas" designed for heavy multitasking and creative work.

When closed, the device utilizes a 6.56-inch OLED cover screen. This external display is large enough to function as a standard smartphone, meaning you will not have to open the device for every notification or quick task.

Pro-Grade Camera System

Motorola is not holding back on photography. The Razr Fold features a triple 50MP rear camera array:

  • Main Sensor: A 50MP Sony LYTIA sensor (LYT-828) with OIS. It features a large 1/1.28" sensor size for improved low-light performance.

  • Ultra-wide: A 50MP lens with a 1/2.76" sensor size that also handles macro photography.

  • Telephoto: A 50MP periscope lens (LYT-600) with 3x optical zoom and a 1/1.95" sensor size.

Selfie duties are split between a 32MP camera on the cover display and a 20MP sensor on the internal screen for high-quality video calls. On paper, this is a well rounded setup that rivals or bests the Z Fold 7 across the board. Processing will be the true differentiator.

Performance and AI

The Razr Fold is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. Early reports suggest it will be paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.1 storage.

Motorola is also leaning heavily into "Moto AI" with several new features:

  • Catch Me Up: Summarizes your notifications so you can get up to speed quickly.

  • Next Move: Provides tailored recommendations based on your current screen activity.

  • Qira: An always-on, system-level AI assistant that works across devices.

Design and Accessories

The phone will be available in two Pantone-certified colors: Blackened Blue and Lily White. The Blackened Blue model features a diamond piqué-inspired finish for extra grip, while Lily White offers a smoother, silk-like texture.

For those who want to use that 8-inch screen for work, the device supports the new Moto Pen Ultra. This active stylus features less than 5ms of latency and 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity. It enables features like "Sketch to Image" and "Quick Clip" for easy note-taking, though it is sold separately.

Pricing and Availability

Reliable industry leaker Evan Blass (@evleaks) has provided crucial details regarding the launch strategy. Motorola intends to be highly competitive by pricing the Razr Fold at a starting point of $1,500 in the US. This "aggressive pricing" is a clear move to undercut Samsung's flagship foldables, which often retail for several hundred dollars more.

While a specific release date has not been confirmed, the Moto Razr Fold is expected to hit shelves later in 2026. This launch may face some hurdles in the US, as rumors suggest AT&T is considering narrowing its Motorola lineup, which could impact where consumers can purchase the device on contract.
