This is the Razr Fold and I'm Slightly Disappointed

The wait for Motorola to enter the book-style foldable market is finally over. For years, the brand has focused exclusively on its clamshell Razr lineup. While those devices are excellent, fans have been clamoring for a true productivity powerhouse to rival the Galaxy Z Fold and Pixel Fold series.

Thanks to recent leaks from Evan Blass, we now have our first look at the Motorola Razr Fold. While the device brings some exciting new features to the table, there is also a bit of a reality check regarding its design.

A Standard Design with a Few Surprises

Early teasers sent to journalists led many (like me) to believe that Motorola might be working on a "passport" style device—something wider and shorter, similar to the rumored wider Galaxy Z Fold or a future iPhone Fold.

However, the leaked images reveal a more traditional book-style design. While it might not be the form-factor revolution some hoped for, the Razr Fold looks modern and premium.

  • Tall Aspect Ratio: The device appears taller and narrower than the "square" designs we have seen from competitors. Initial comparisons suggest it may be slightly taller than the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

  • Modern Hinge: Motorola has spent years refining the hinge on its clamshell phones. This expertise shows here, as the hinge appears to protrude very little, allowing for a slim, modern profile.

  • Textured Back: One of the most striking details is the back of the device, which appears to feature a faux leather or "ivory" textured finish. This is a nice departure from the standard glass and metal slabs.

Hardware Notes

One of the biggest wins for the Razr Fold is the camera array. The leaks show a large, square camera bump with four distinct cutouts. One is clearly an LED flash, but another is undeniably a periscope telephoto zoom lens. This is a significant move. Most foldables in the US market struggle with long-range zoom. If Motorola can deliver a high-quality periscope lens, it will immediately differentiate itself from the current offerings from Samsung and Google.

For users who miss the S Pen functionality on other devices, the Razr Fold has a major surprise: stylus support. The leaked images show a fairly large stylus being used on the internal display. Because of its size, this is likely an active stylus that requires charging. There is also a small, grooved button on the side of the phone. While its exact purpose is unconfirmed, it could be a dedicated AI button or a toggle for silence/vibrate/ring.

What’s Next?

Motorola is set to host an event tomorrow where we expect a full unveiling. While the design is now mostly known, several critical questions remain:

  1. Price and Release Date: Will Motorola be aggressive with pricing to undercut Samsung?

  2. Software: How will Moto’s software adapt to the larger canvas for multitasking?

  3. Battery Life: With such a large internal screen, battery capacity will be a make-or-break spec.

We will be covering the official announcement as soon as it happens. If Motorola nails the price and the camera performance, the Razr Fold could be the most serious challenger to the Z Fold we have seen in years.
