Motorola Might Finally Give Us the Wide Razr Fold We Wanted
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 has turned into a clear hit, showing that there is genuine demand for an alternative to the traditional tall and narrow profile. Buyers genuinely like having a shorter, wider cover screen on the outside paired with a 4:3 display on the inside. That interest is substantial enough that Apple is preparing its own foldable built around that exact form factor. Between Samsung's success and Apple's upcoming entry, it is obvious that this wider design has found a real audience looking for a different kind of foldable experience.
Motorola Teases Its Next Big Move
Even with a big battery, fast charging and a great camera setup on the Razr Fold, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 has stolen its place in my pocket purely because of that new design. That form factor simply wins out in daily use, but Motorola might not be sitting on the sidelines for long. In fact, many of us thought this wide aspect ratio was coming back in December of 2025, when holiday teasers featuring wide, passport-shaped wooden notepads hinted Motorola was ready to jump into the book-style arena with a broader footprint before the original Razr Fold ultimately arrived with a taller, narrower build. A recent sketch design reported by Android Headlines, followed up by what could be a social media teaser from Motorola, indicates that the company could finally be ready to match that exact form factor.
Looking closely at that sketch, the design is very reminiscent of the iPhone Duo, sporting what you could reasonably guess is probably a 4:3 inner screen. The cover display is labeled as having 3D glass, pointing to some sort of slight curvature across the front panel, which is something I am not the biggest fan of on a daily driver. Out back, the camera bump looks like it could just be two cameras and a flash, though it is tough to say for certain since there are variations across the sketches and these are early concepts. That leaves the door open to Motorola following the exact path laid out by Samsung and Apple by dropping the telephoto lens, which would definitely be a bit disappointing.
Why a Wide Razr Fold Could Shine
Losing the telephoto would certainly suck, but Motorola could easily make up for it if they carry over the best parts of what made the original Razr Fold great. Give me that textured back, stick a silicon-carbon battery inside that easily outpaces what Samsung or Apple are offering, and keep the noticeably faster charging speeds. Pair that hardware with their clean, near-stock version of Android that captures the Pixel vibe, while still delivering killer foldable software like the app carousel multitasking mode and that top-tier desktop interface. If Motorola can pack all of that into this new wide profile and undercut the competition on price, they could have an absolute winner on their hands.
