Moto’s Book Foldable Confirmed?

Back in December, I discussed a mysterious care package Motorola sent to journalists. That package contained items that strongly hinted at a shift in strategy for the brand. While the Razr has successfully dominated the clamshell market, the teasers suggested Motorola was finally ready to tackle a larger book style folding device. It looks like those suspicions were exactly on the money.

Leaker Evan Blass just shared a promotional image that confirms the existence of the Motorola Razr Fold. This leaked slide explicitly names the device and marks it as the first of its kind for the company. According to the leak, Motorola plans to reveal more details in the coming months with a full release scheduled for later this year.

This timeline might actually move much faster than the "coming months" disclaimer suggests. The original care package explicitly mentioned that Lenovo and Motorola would "unfold new perspectives" at Lenovo Tech World on January 6th. Since that event is only two days away and takes place at the massive Las Vegas Sphere during CES, it is highly likely we will see an official announcement or at least a significant "first look" at this hardware on Tuesday.

This news arrives at a pivotal moment for the foldable market. Most rumors regarding the long-awaited iPhone Fold suggest Apple is leaning toward a wide fold design rather than a narrow one. Recent reports also indicate Samsung might be moving in a similar direction for future iterations of the Z Fold series. By entering the arena now, Motorola is positioning itself to compete directly with these "passport" style dimensions.

The leaked image promises "brilliant displays" and an "advanced, boundary-breaking camera system." Motorola clearly wants to set a new standard for what is possible in a larger foldable. If they can nail the hinge and software experience, the razr fold could be the first legitimate threat to the established leaders in the book style category. More information is expected to surface as we get closer to the official launch window.
