All The Latest OnePlus Open 2 Rumors!

It seems like every day we get a new trickle of rumors about the OnePlus Open 2 (or the Oppo Find N5, depending on your region). Every new bit of info just makes me more excited. This is easily one of my most anticipated devices of early 2025.

The only problem is that all these rumors are super fragmented. You hear one thing here, one thing there, and it's hard to get a good overall picture of what the device will be like. So, I thought it might be useful to do a bit of a roundup. I'm going to try to bring all those rumors together and give you a fuller idea of what we might be able to expect from the OnePlus Open 2.

These were all published on a Chinese social media website called Weibo by someone named Digital Chat Station. They've been very accurate when it comes to rumors about Chinese manufacturers like Oppo (a sister company to OnePlus) in the past.

System on a Chip

  • Digital Chat Station says it's going to be the Snapdragon 8 Elite. This will be the absolute top-end processor available when this device comes out.

  • There's been no mention of RAM or storage, but I think it's pretty reasonable to expect 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. That's what we got last time. 16GB of RAM is still easily enough to do all of the on-device AI stuff that you're looking to do. I just don't think that we are at the 18, 20, 24, whatever it might be. I don't think that we're quite there yet. I think 16 will be fine and that's kind of what I am expecting.

Display

  • Again, nothing firm has been said about the display. The last one was a 7.82-inch display, so I think it's going to be around that same size.

  • It's supposed to be 2,800 nits. I do want to make it clear that I don't think that the OnePlus Open is actually 2,800 nits. I don't think anybody's ever been able to verify that. It's a fairly bright display, but I think that it's going to be in that similar range once again.

Body

  • The closest thing to an answer we've gotten about the thickness of this thing is Digital Chat Station saying 9.x mm thick (or thin). So, somewhere in the nines. That is exceptionally thin. For context, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is 10.5 mm thick, the Z Fold 6 is 12.1 mm thick, and the current OnePlus Open is 11.7 mm thick. So this would be pretty noticeably thinner than even the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. That is, like I said, very, very impressive if true.

Battery

  • It's said to be somewhere in the range of 6,000mAh. This sounds absolutely insane until you start looking at some of these other Chinese manufacturers because they've actually done things like this already. That's a crazy battery for a device this size that's getting thinner.

Charging

  • Nothing has been said about charging, but I'm expecting it to be 67 watts or higher. They're not going to go backwards on the charging speed.

  • Digital Chat Station did say recently that wireless charging is in. So, the phone is getting thinner with a larger battery (I'm assuming some new technology to make that happen) and it's adding wireless charging. They're ticking all the boxes.

Waterproofing

Digital Chat Station on Weibo

  • He did also say that it is IPX8, which basically means that there is water resistance up to 1.5 meters for around 30 minutes under certain conditions. It's important to mention that. So it's going to actually have some water resistance. That X in the middle means that in terms of dust resistance there still just isn't anything there. It's going to be just like a lot of foldables you may have already used in the past. But having that eight there for the water resistance is definitely a good thing.

Cameras

  • A triple 50-megapixel setup. It is very, very likely (this part's my speculation) coming from the OnePlus 13, which also does have a triple 50-megapixel setup.

When we compare these two, the 50-megapixel setup on the OnePlus 13 to what we had on the OnePlus Open, there's not a lot that we're going to be able to kind of get from just these numbers. The primary sensor looks pretty similar other than the fact that it has a little bit higher resolution on the OnePlus 13. The pixel size, 1.12 micrometers, is the same. The sensor size, 1/1.43 inches, is the same. But we just can't really tell a whole lot.

When it comes to the telephoto, you may look at this and say, "Well, the Open is 64 megapixels. This is 50 megapixels." You've got to remember though, megapixels is not the end-all, be-all. You've got to look at other things like the sensor size. 1/1.95 inches on the Open, 1/2 inches on the 13. So this is a larger sensor that it's going to be using and that does make a pretty big difference. There's so much tech that goes into these camera sensors. The biggest thing to keep in mind is it's a new setup being used and it's the same setup that they are using on their flagship device and that is good.

Software

  • Of course, this thing will be launching with OxygenOS 15. This just launched for OnePlus devices. It is currently running on my OnePlus Open and once the rollout kind of resumes it should be running on your OnePlus Open relatively soon as well. I've given my thoughts on this update, but it's pretty impressive. A lot of the AI stuff isn't really in yet (things like Circle to Search haven't hit yet) but a lot of other things are very, very good. It does feel very, very fast, very smooth. The parallel animations thing does seem to be doing its job.

Conclusion

I've said it before and I'll say it again: if the OnePlus Open 2 or the Oppo Find N5 (whatever region you happen to be in, whatever you're going to be getting) is not one of your most anticipated devices of 2025, you must just not be a fan of foldables, because this thing looks absolutely outstanding. The specs are off the charts.

When you think about the fact that the current OnePlus Open, a full year after it's been released (actually more than a year now), you're comparing it to the Z Fold 6 and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and it still holds up as well as it does. It is still a device that I could recommend to people and say, "Yeah, it holds its own against the Z Fold 6 and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Bet your rear end it does." It's a fantastic device and we're finally going to be getting that sequel seemingly quarter one of 2025. Those are the reports.

I am very, very excited about this device. And again, if you're not, I don't know what you're looking for for excitement because this thing looks amazing.

There you go guys. Those are the current rumors about the OnePlus Open 2. That's what we think we know. Obviously there are some gaps in our knowledge still. We don't know for sure what that release window is. We think it's Q1 of 2025. We don't know what the price is going to be. Hopefully it's right there around where the original launched. That would be really, really good to see. But there are some factors that might affect that pricing a little bit. Hopefully that does not happen.
