Pixel 10 Pricing: Why Recent Rumors Are Likely Wrong

A couple of days ago I wrote a piece here going over a recent report from Android Headlines that predicted a series of price changes for the Pixel 10 Series of devices. These rumors are now being cast very much in doubt by some unfortunate facts.

Alleged Changes

  • The a-model Pixel will remain $499 through the Pixel 12a

  • Pixel 10 and 10 Pro models could increase their price by $100 (More on this below)

  • The Pixel 10 Pro Fold could be priced around $1600

  • The goal is a $1500 Pixel Fold by 2028

In my article and video I expressed some heavy skepticism that this report was fully accurate. While I had and have no trouble believing that the Base and Pro models will see another $100 price hike, any talk of prices going down amid the chaos of on-again, off-again tariffs seems highly unlikely. Now that the dust has settled, it seems there’s ample evidence to more or less ignore these predictions.

Just Wrong..

First off we have something I totally missed in the original article. It’s now corrected at the bottom, but they initially claimed that the Pixel 10 Base model would be seeing a price hike along with the Pro models. This was apparently because their source thought the Pixel 9 was $699 and was told the 10 would be $799. This was then communicated as a $100 price increase. As we all likely know, the base model is already $799. The updated article now says that should stay the same.

Timing Matters

The other big issue that has come to light is regarding the timing of the acquisition of these rumors. Reddit user Appropriate_Rain_770, who is apparently the author of this post, has now stated that they originally received this information “a few months ago.” As it turns out, quite a few things have happened in the last few months that could throw any pricing plans being made by tech companies importing hardware into total disarray.

I’m not usually one to lean to negative and criticize other creators in the tech space, but posting these rumors while knowing full well how old they are and how much the situation has changed strikes me as reckless. Even if the prices were once accurate, it is impossible to know that they still are. My advice to anyone reading is this; whatever your expectations are for phone prices in the short term, toss them out. We just don’t know. And rumors from three months ago are about as useful as a blind guess.
