Pixel 10 Pro Prototype Leak Reveals Disappointing Modem News

New details are emerging about Google's next flagship phone the Pixel 10 Pro. Prototype images and leaked specifications provide an early look at what could be in store from the upcoming device.

The information primarily stems from photos of a "DVT1.0" (Design Verification Test) prototype. These images surfaced on the Chinese social media platform Coolapk and were shared by tipster Mystic Leaks on Telegram. They suggest that while the Pixel 10 Pro maintains a familiar aesthetic line similar to the Pixel 9 Pro it introduces several subtle design adjustments. The SIM card slot has been moved to the top left corner and the USB-C port now flanked by symmetrical cutouts for the speaker and microphone. New system sounds like ringtones and alarms have reportedly leaked.

Performance

Under the hood the prototype reveals the presence of Google's next-generation Tensor G5 chipset, codenamed "Blazer." This processor features an eight-core configuration.

  • 2x Cortex-A520

  • 3x Cortex-A725

  • 2x Cortex-A725

  • 1x Cortex-X4

While a leaked screenshot suggests a 5nm manufacturing process earlier rumors point to a 3nm process by TSMC. The prototype also shows 16GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

Despite earlier expectations, the Tensor G5 chipset will reportedly not feature a MediaTek modem. Instead, images from DevCheck Pro indicate the Tensor G5 is utilizing a baseband starting with "g5400," which is consistent with the Pixel 9 series. This suggests the Pixel 10 series will continue to use the Exynos 5400 modem, even with the chipset's manufacturing shift to TSMC.

While a switch to a MediaTek modem might have offered gains in efficiency it's worth noting that the Pixel 9 series has run considerably cooler than past Pixels. Further improvements to the Tensor G5 due to the move to TSMC manufacturing could compensate for Google’s reluctance to switch to a more efficient modem.

Cameras

For photography the Pixel 10 Pro will feature a pill-shaped camera bar on the rear housing three cameras a flash and likely a temperature sensor. The Pro and Pro XL models are expected to retain a camera setup similar to their predecessors with a 50-megapixel main sensor a 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens and a 48-megapixel telephoto lens.

The Pixel 10 Pro and the broader Pixel 10 series are expected to be unveiled at a Made by Google event on August 13. Pre-orders are likely to begin on the same day with deliveries and in-store availability anticipated around August 20 or August 28. It's also possible that the new Pixel Watch 4 could be showcased at this event. As with all leaks it's important to take this information with a degree of caution as Google has not officially confirmed any of these details. However these early insights provide a compelling look at the potential direction for the Pixel 10 Pro.
