Samsung Might Launch the TriFold in the United States

Get ready, foldable fans. Samsung's next big thing might be coming to a store near you. We've been hearing rumors about a "tri-fold" phone for a while now, a device that bends on two hinges to offer a truly massive 9.9-inch screen. While it was once thought this phone would be exclusive to certain markets, recent reports suggest Samsung is considering a US launch.

This is a huge deal because Samsung has a history of keeping its most ambitious designs in its home country of South Korea and in China. Case in point: the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition. But a new report from 9to5Google indicates the company is at least "considering" bringing the tri-fold to the US. From that report, Samsung is allegedly “still weighing which markets to launch the device in when it arrives later this year, but a United States release is part of those discussions.” This would be a first for the American market, as there is currently no dual-hinged foldable available here. My guess would be that this is sales contingent. If the TriFold flops in their home market, it’s not likely to see a wide release, but if sales pop off, Samsung could push a small number of units stateside. Regardless, we’re going to be talking about very small quantities given the price.

So, when can we expect to see this two-hinged device? That's where things get a little hazy. Early rumors pointed to an unveiling as soon as September 29 at a rumored fourth Unpacked event in South Korea. Other reports suggest the event might have been pushed back to October 21. Either way, Samsung has officially said the phone will be released before the end of the year.

The device itself is a powerhouse, with leaks revealing a design that folds inward in a "U-shape." Under the hood, it's rumored to come with top-of-the-line specs, including a Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, up to 16 GB of RAM, and 1 TB of storage. The phone may also feature a triple rear camera system that matches the Z Fold 7. With all this cutting-edge technology, it is not expected to support the S Pen stylus and is rumored to have a very high price tag, possibly around $3,000.

For now, the US launch is still a possibility, but it's an exciting one for anyone eager to get their hands on the next generation of foldable phones.
