Unihertz Might Actually Be Changing..
Can we fix this?
Unihertz is finally giving fans of the Titan series some reason to celebrate, and it looks like they might actually be getting serious about their software updates. This is a pretty big deal, especially since they recently promised that the upcoming Titan 2 Elite will ship with Android 16 and get 4 major updates all the way through Android 20.
Trading Skepticism for a Little Faith
I’ll be the first to admit I was a bit skeptical when Unihertz first announced that five-year update plan. Small manufacturers usually struggle to keep up with the big players because delivering these updates is incredibly expensive and time-consuming. In the past, Unihertz has either been super late with version upgrades or just ignored older models entirely, so I told everyone to pump the brakes a bit.
But the latest news about the current Titan 2 has me thinking they might actually be turning over a new leaf.
The current Unihertz Titan 2, which is running Android 15 right now, is officially scheduled to get Android 16 this February. Even the tiny Jelly Star is on the list for an April update. While it’s a bummer that older phones are still being left in the dust, the fact that they’re focusing so hard on their newest hardware is a great sign. For a small OEM, getting a major OS update out by February is actually pretty impressive.
If you've used the Titan 2, you know the "Material You" theming is a bit of a mess. For some reason, the quick settings stay stuck on default blue no matter what color you select for theming. Since Android 16 brings "Material 3 Expressive," I am hopeful this update finally gives the interface that polished, Pixel-like look it’s been missing.
Good Vibes for the Titan 2 Elite
This sudden push for timely updates definitely makes me feel a lot better about the upcoming Titan 2 Elite. If they can actually pull off this February update for the current model, it makes that promise of support through Android 20 feel way more realistic. We’re still looking at a late March or April release for the Elite, so stay tuned.
