Vivo X Fold 5 Leaks Hint at Foldable Throne Contender

Earlier this year the Oppo Find N5 became perhaps the most impressive overall folding phone available with a 4.2mm body that didn’t prevent Oppo from packing in a large 5,600mAh battery. However, according to a new leak from Yogesh Brar, the upcoming Vivo X Fold 5 appears set to compete at the top tier of the foldable smartphone market. Oh and in case you were wondering what happened to the X Fold 4, they’re just skipping that name because the number 4 is apparently considered bad luck in China as it sounds like their word for death. Fair enough.

Vivo X Fold 3

According to the leaked specifications, the Vivo X Fold 5 will boast a vibrant 6.53-inch LTPO cover display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, offering a premium experience even when the device is folded. Unfolding the device reveals a large and immersive 8.03-inch foldable AMOLED panel with a sharp 2K+ resolution and an equally fluid 120Hz refresh rate, promising a captivating visual experience for multimedia consumption and multitasking.

Under the hood, the X Fold 5 is said to use last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset which is a bit odd. It should also come with 16GB RAM and 512GB of storage, so no skimping on the specs there.

Photography enthusiasts will likely appreciate the X Fold 5's camera system. The cover screen will house a 32-megapixel selfie camera, with a second 32-megapixel shooter located on the inner foldable display. The rear camera setup is tipped to be a versatile triple-lens system, headlined by a 50-megapixel Sony IMX921 primary sensor. This will be accompanied by a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens featuring autofocus, and a 50-megapixel Sony IMX882 periscope telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom.

Oppo Find N5 vs Vivo X Fold 5

Powering this impressive hardware will be a massive 6,000mAh battery and when it's time to recharge, users can expect blazing-fast 90W wired charging and 30W wireless charging support. Somehow, Vivo is doing all of this inside a 4.3mm package (9.33mm when closed). Granted, it’s not as thin as the Find N5 at 4.2mm, but I think most of us would trade a tenth of a millimeter for an even larger battery and faster wired charging.

While Vivo has yet to officially announce the X Fold 5 and the report doesn’t offering any speculation on when it’s coming or what it’ll cost. For reference for my American readers, the Vivo X Fold 3 can be imported for around $1200 right now, which is still a little steep for some. It’s unfortunate, but with the rising cost of importing, this foldable will likely be out of reach for most foldable users leaving options like the Z Fold 7 or Pixel 10 Pro Fold in position to capitalize.
