Pixel 10 Pro Fold Renders Reveal Few Changes
After renders for the Pixel 10 series of phones leaked a while back I think some of us were beginning to wonder where the leaks for the next Pixel Fold were. Thankfully we have to wait no longer as Android Headlines is back in conjunction with OnLeaks with renders for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.
At first glance, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold looks strikingly similar to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The camera module appears virtually unchanged with the device maintaining the dual-pill island that I must admit I never loved. The hole punch selfie cameras are also staying put with one in the cover display and one in the top right corner of the inner screen.
Speaking of that cover display, it does appear that Google has shrunk down the space to the left of that screen, reducing the empty space being taken up by the hinge portion of the device. This was one of the biggest eye-sore aspects of the 9 Pro Fold for me and it appears like the sequel will now be somewhere in line with the OnePlus Open. The top left corner bit does still look a bit large, but that likely comes down to the radius of the curve in the corner of the screen.
Specifications
Unfortunately, the article is pretty light on specs. For the cameras, the best we have is the speculation that since the camera looks identical, the sensors likely are as well.
48MP 1/2.0" Primary
10.8MP 1/3.2" 5X Telephoto
10.5MP 1/3.4" Ultrawide
Android Headlines also states that while they don’t have the exact dimensions of the device, they do expect it to be at least a bit thinner. Last year’s model was 5.1mm and it’s rumored that Samsung is jumping all the way to 4.5mm with the Fold7, so Google will need to do a bit to keep up with their main competition. Of course we do expect the 10 Pro Fold to launch with the same Tensor G5 as the rest and it should maintain 16GB RAM and 256GB ROM. While the Tensor G5 doesn’t seem like an earth shattering upgrade year-over-year, it should be a bit faster than last year. Here’s what’s rumored:
1x Cortex-X4 (3.4GHz)
5x Cortex-A725 (2.86GHz)
2x Cortex-A520 (2.25GHz)
ARM v9.2
Samsung S5400 Modem
GPU: PowerVR D-Series DXT-48-1536, clocked at 1.1GHz with Integrated Virtualization + Ray Tracing and FSR support
TPU: Improved version of EdgeTPU (18 / 9 TOPS), around 10-15% faster
Here’s a quote from an earlier article on the Tensor G5:
As was stated back in October when most of this information surfaced, this looks like a fairly meager upgrade. The Prime core is clocked a bit faster, the Performance cores are upgraded to a newer model and they’re shifting to a new layout that uses 5 performance cores and 2 efficiency cores rather than 3 and 4. Each core cluster is also allegedly clocked a bit faster than last year, which could indicate better thermal management as well. It’s also worth noting that this new leak claims the modem will be staying the same, which isn’t really that bad considering how much better this new modem was in the Pixel 9. A large part of why the 9’s battery life was much improved was down to that new modem.
The use of TSMC’s N3E node is also notable as it should be a pretty big improvement. It’s also what Apple uses for their A18 chip. The Android Authority report also claimed that the Tensor G5 is quite a bit physically larger than Apples A18 Pro, measuring in at 121 mm^2 vs Apple’s 105 mm^2.
Exactly how what all this will mean for real world performance is hard to say.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is anticipated to debut alongside the entire Pixel 10 lineup in August during a Made by Google event, similar to last year's release of the Pixel 9 series. This means that the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold will all be launched together.
Android Headlines is also suggesting that the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold may be priced lower this year, although not by much. That being said, even a meager decrease of $100 might be big as the Pixel is already cheaper than its main competition, the Galaxy Z Fold.
