Samsung's Foldable Future: Galaxy Z Flip7 FE + Tri-Fold

This rumor mill is once again churning with talk of a tri-fold Samsung phone as well as rumors about the next Galaxy Z Fold device. First, let’s dig into what’s being said and then I’ll tell you why it might be bunk.

A South Korean publication called TheElec posted a video recently and this video was apparently distilled by Twitter user @Jukanlosreve. Despite the fact that Samsung’s foldable seem to be declining in sales as the competition gets stiffer and stiffer, Samsung is apparently doubling down on the concept with not two, but 4 foldables for the year 2025.

The Tri-Fold

First up, we have the much-lauded Tri-Fold device. According to this report, Samsung is set to begin production on this 10” folding device in Q2 of this year with a launch in Q3. They expect this to be a niche product and hope to sell around 200K units. Just a couple of weeks ago that number was 300K. More on this inconsistency later.

Z Flip FE?

Next up we have the return of another device that we’ve heard rumored for a while. The rumor is that Samsung is preppering a cheaper variant of the already less expensive Galaxy Z Flip, perhaps calling it a Fan Edition. This device has been said to use the Z Flip 6’s display while potentially also using a different set of cameras and a different processor. TheElec seemed to be light on details here.

Galaxy Z Fold7

Last, but certainly not least, we have some information on the Z Fold7. The word is that this sequel may indeed have the S Pen digitizer removed. This would mean either no S Pen support, which I doubt, or they’d be using a passive pen tech similar to what they’ve deployed on their cheaper tablets. What’s interesting about this, also driving home the inconsistent nature of these reports, is that the Z Fold SE famously lacks an S Pen digitizer. This makes Ross Young’s report that the Z Fold7 would basically be the Z Fold SE all the more intriguing. The inconsistent part is that the very same publication now telling us to expect the S Pen digitizer to be gone also told us that the Z Fold7 would be nearly identical to the 6 with the big changes coming with the 8.

What’s Likely?

This is one of those situations where I would highly advise waiting for people like OnLeaks, EVLeaks or Ross Young to speak. TheElec and SisaJournal were all over the place during the last cycle and I’m just not willing to take what they’re saying as anything more than rumor. We know there’s a codename for a second Z Fold, but we don’t honestly know anymore than that. Rather than Q7A, this new codename is Q7M. What exactly this indicates is hard to say. It could be the Special Edition again, this time reaching new regions or it could be something entirely different.

For now, expect a Fold7 and Flip7 this year. Beyond that, wait until you hear it from someone with a good track record.
