Using Samsung DeX has been a massive part of my workflow while carrying the Galaxy Z Fold 8. Having all my apps, files, logins, and messaging ready to go on a larger display is tough to beat. While a dedicated lapdock like a NexDock is usually my standard approach, UPERFECT sent over their BE156EF wireless portable monitor, and it brings a completely different spin to a mobile desktop setup.
Instead of needing cables running from your phone to power the screen and deliver video, this display is completely self-contained. It packs its own built-in battery and handles video streaming over Miracast, meaning you can fire up wireless DeX with zero cables attached.
Hardware, Ports and the Included Accessories
The monitor features a 15.6-inch non-touch display housed in an impressively lightweight chassis, weighing in at roughly 770g. Wireless Performance and Latency
Firing up wireless DeX is as simple as tapping the toggle in the Galaxy quick settings panel. Once connected, general desktop tasks like browsing the web, managing windows, and typing feel surprisingly fluid. There is subtle compression artifacting when large visual elements quickly change, but the latency is low enough that everyday multitasking feels natural.
If you hook up a USB-C cable for a direct wired connection, that slight delay completely disappears and the responsiveness jumps to standard desktop levels. Wirelessly extending a Windows display via Miracast on a Surface laptop also proved exceptionally smooth, showing almost no noticeable pointer drag.
For media consumption, Samsung Smart View mirrors video playback cleanly and lets you fill the entire 16:9 screen. Standard Google Cast protocols are not supported, meaning phones relying strictly on Chromecast streaming like Pixel devices will not discover the monitor wirelessly. Gaming is technically possible for titles like Minecraft, though fast-paced camera movements do highlight the wireless input lag in a way reminiscent of cloud gaming platforms.
Audio, Battery Life and Value
Built-in speakers are included, but their output is thin and hollow, making the phone's native speakers the better audio route with no lip-sync issues over wireless streaming. The internal battery lasts roughly 4 hours on a single charge and takes about 2 hours to top back up over USB-C.
