Will the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Match the Find N6 Crease?
For months, the single most talked about aspect of rival foldables like the Oppo Find N6 has been that "zero feel" crease. Oppo managed to greatly diminish it, leading to a flood of questions about whether the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8, or what we now know as the Z Fold 8 Ultra, will finally match that level of engineering.
We have had some conflicting reporting on this exact point, but some fresh news clarifies what we might actually see this summer.
The Case of the Vanishing Crease
A recent headline from SamMobile suggests that the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s display crease could be as invisible as Oppo’s. That phrasing is key, because while people love to say there is "no crease," it is never truly gone, just incredibly well hidden.
This latest claim comes from well-known tech insider Ice Universe, who stated that the crease control on the Z Fold 8 series will be just as impressive as the Find N6. This is a massive relief for anyone who saw Samsung Display’s booth back at CES, where they showed off a next-gen foldable panel that made the traditional crease almost impossible to discern.
At the time, it was hard to say if that tech would make it to market. Samsung Display sells tech at CES every year that Samsung's mobile division chooses not to use, leaving the final design up in the air.
Tracking the Leaks
Interestingly, this new report is a total flip from what we heard just a couple of weeks ago. Previously, the same insider claimed that the crease on the Z Fold 8 series wouldn't improve much at all.
When called out on the sudden shift, they clarified that the earlier disappointing info was based on a first test version, while the latest prototype has significantly improved the screen.
You can look at this one of two ways. You can take the cynical route and say it is easy to be a tech tipster if you cover all your bases by predicting both outcomes. Alternatively, device development is a fluid situation, and early engineering models rarely reflect the final product. Either way, take this with a healthy pinch of salt.
The same leak also re-confirmed the naming scheme for this year's lineup. The wider aspect ratio model is stepping into the spotlight as the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, while the premium, ultra-premium variant is taking on the Z Fold 8 Ultra moniker.
Dummy Units
Beyond the screen, a new hands-on video from Sunny Dickson gave us a clear look at a physical dummy unit of the phone. These non-working models are regularly sent out early so case manufacturers can test fitments ahead of launch.
The physical model aligns almost perfectly with the 3D-printed renders that have circulated for months, with the only noticeable tweak being a volume rocker that sits just a hair higher on the frame.
The dummy unit also offers a look at the bottom edge, showcasing a USB-C port and the speaker placement. Unfortunately, the top edge remains hidden in the footage, meaning we are still assuming Samsung is keeping both speakers on the left side of the device, which isn't the most ideal setup for balanced stereo sound when holding the phone open.
With a rumored announcement expected around late July, we don't have much longer to wait for official answers. Stay tuned as the final details fall into place.
